Holding Tight

Holding Tight

Holding on

too tightly

to things that

I

should let go of

Memories

of

yesterdays passions

and

broken promises

Terrified

that if I do

Memories

of things that were

once

will follow

Becoming

hopelessly lost

in the dark shadows

of things

that never were.

In the letting go, there becomes space for newer, better memories to come to the fore. The old ones never go away, they just step back a bit.xx♥

I love the last line - it implies an altered memory. It is interesting that it is the altered facts that we treasure and hang on to, when in fact, we are hanging on to imagination rather than reality.
Lovely, touching poem.

Wow! What a touching poem. Letting go is hard period. Letting go of those things that could possibly free us, seem to be the hardest. I think sometimes we cling tightly because of fear and it's all we know. Sometimes the truth of what was, is intermixed with what we wanted to be the truth. Sometimes we cling to these for so long that we actually believe them.

Once we get to the other side of letting go, we see the beauty of the other side. Yes, seeing the truth can be quite painful and scarey. But once we face it squarely in the face, it can be empowering if we let it be so.

This was beautifully said my friend. Hugs, Lori

Letting go is never easy...at least that's what I've experienced...it takes a while - sometimes it takes a longer time, sometimes it takes a shorter time...

Oh, this speaks to all of us.

Nicely written, and speaks to a fear we have all had, at one time or another.

Relax, Bogey.

The memories will always be there.

Just take some time to
a) relax, and
b) edit those memories, giving them some appropriate context, in past and present.

The important ones will shine; others will fade.

This is so lovely! Simplicity that says so much. You have put into words a fear that, I think, we all have. Thank you for sharing this :)

I know it sounds trite but, when I look back to the things that got me down in my forties, I can hardly remember them (thirty years later). The saying 'This too will pass' is very true. Thank you for following my blog.

Natalie, this I know because, when the shoe was on the other foot, these were words I would use on friends going thru similar ordeals. Somehow, it just doesn't seem as effective when you are going thru and periodically reliving things.

Thanks Audrey, perhaps it was just misguided wishful thinking.

Thanks Lori, your words tell me that this is something that you too have gone thru yourself and survived.

No Amel, it is never easy. Time always seems to go such much slower during these times.

Yes Nancy, it does. Thanks for your comments.

Rob-Bear, trying to relax. Maybe it's the time of year brings certain things to the forefront.

No worries Tint. I think people who have gone thru certain things in their lives recognize the combination of words and feelings.

Brenda, I sure hope this passes before 30 years. If you think I'm cynical now can you imagine me in then. Yikes! I love your Blog. You are very creative and lyrical.
