Spring Fever

Believe it or not, not all of us who live above the 49th parallel call an Igloo home. Winter is not our only season (sometimes). Nor do we all ride dog sleds or polar bears and on our Tax Form, we do not list Lumberjack as our primary occupation. (I'm sure those who do are quite content do so. Had to put that in.....didn't want to offend anybody.) Although, with the past couple 0f winters we have had, it might not be a bad idea to practice. It just seems like winter lasts an eternity up here. And I for one, am usually quite happy to see the last remnants of the white stuff disappear for a few months. Because believe me, you blink around here and the next thing you know, you are raking leaves again just in time for the first blizzard!

It is nice to hang up our mittens, scarves and touques. Yes, I said touques.....that's what we call our hats with the pom pom's on it. And it is bloody marvelous to see peoples faces again. Amongst other parts of their anatomy. They are usually hunkered down deep into their clothing protecting themselves from windchill. So sure, it is nice to store the sweaters and pull out the T-shirts, shorts, sandals and other spring and summer attire. But what I really like about this season is seeing women all decked out in the latest Spring and Summer fashion.

In case you haven't noticed, I'm a guy. Wasn't planned that way, it just happened so I have to live with that fact. Oh Darn! But, I digress. Sure, seeing women walking around in shorts or a pair of Capri's with one of a gazillion matching tops they have to choose from is fun. But, you put a woman in a free flowing summer dress with open toed shoes or sandals, painted nails and well, let's just say (hold on.............."anybody got a bucket of ice water"). Ahem......okay, I'm better now! Well, I'm sure you understand what I mean.

And just in case the ladies are worried that this kind of effort goes unnoticed think again. Sure, you have your juveniles who don't know any better and act like a bunch of crazy, caged baboons. But then you have certain individuals, (me) who appreciates all of the plucking, tweezing, manicuring, shaving, buffing, waxing, painting...etc. etc. etc. that goes into the final outcome. It's all I can do to stand in front of the mirror for 3 1/2 minutes to shave yesterdays stubble off.

So forgive me if I give you a lingering look or glance back over my shoulder for another peek. I just want you to know that I appreciate those who appreciate themselves.

In my part of Canada...still waiting on spring/summer weather! Sheesh! What a nice post! I particularly like the last line - you appreciate people who appreciate themselves! Very nice.

Women appreciate when men fuss and primp a bit too. Rugged men who dress up a bit are the best. Think Paul Newman.

Living at or near that parallel does change one's view of life and clothing. I remember the layers coming off as the (short) summer got closer in Latvia. Thanks for posting this.

I love the idea of a guy that can appreciate all that we go through! Yay!

After a couple of winters in Minnesota - I can relate to this post!

I spent 3 years at college in New Zealand, down very very south. So, it was considered cold for me because I'm from a tropical country. Even during summer I still felt the chill. I couldn't imagine how a person can manage to put on skirt during summer. What's summer like there? At least over in Australia, summer is a scorcher sometime!

Now you wouldn't be rubbing it in just a little would you Natalie. Where are my cyber snowballs.

Audrey, I hear ya. It's tough when all you feel are Arctic Winds. Too many fail to take advantage of our beautiful spring months.

Lakeviewer it is nice to "primp" up once in awhile. It makes me feel all Gentlemanly and such. And only Paul Newman was able to look like Paul Newman. A great actor and sadly missed.

Expat, I hear Latvia has their own version of ice and snow. When you breathe the cold air it freezes in mid-air.

LOL, it would be a real shame not to appreciate it. I appreciate it every chance I get. ;) I think Minnesota is right along the same line as where I live. Cold and snowy.

Ai Shiang, summers here are pretty good. Temperatures average between 23 and 30 degrees celsius. But we only get a couple of months of that. That is why it is so fleeting. We enjoy it while we can.

All sounds a bit too chilly for me...brrrr

In answer to your question, my work doesn't really have an average size, it ranges, depending on my mood and what I have available. Thanks for stopping by :)

What a nice post, i had a smile the whole way through.

I don't think you need to apologize though, everyone likes to feel appreciated!

At the moment here it is 95 degrees(with wildfires in the foothills) at 7 pm,not usual for this time, so cooler weather sounds kind of nice. We are praying for fog or even rain to help the firefighters...

That is a really great post. Nice to see that men appreciate women making an effort.

Still a bit too parky here this week for the summer frocks and sandals. Roll on summer, that's if we get one this year.
